FAKENHAM COMMUNITY  CAR SCHEME

RUN BY VOLUNTEERS FOR PEOPLE IN NEED OF

TRANSPORT SUPPORT TO ATTEND LOCAL SURGERY OR MEDICALLY RELATED APPOINTMENTS.

HOW THE SCHEME WORKS

To access the scheme the number to ring is 07799 274 995  

Between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. on weekdays only.

Please give as much notice as possible and a minimum of 48 hours.

You need to give us your name, address postcode and telephone number.   We then match a driver with your requirement and we will ring you direct to make arrangements.   A fee for the journey is agreed at this point (45p per mile from the driver’s house to yours, on to your appointment and back again).  This fee covers  basic expenses of running the car  only.   All our drivers are volunteers and are CRB checked.

We will give you a time for picking up and expect you to be ready and waiting for the car.

The driver will wait a reasonable time  for you to complete your appointment or give you a time when he/she will return.

Sadly our current transport does not have disabled access for wheelchairs but where possible will accommodate walking sticks  and zimmer frame.   Please advise these requirements at time of booking.   Wheelchairs are available at the surgery and the driver will find one for you if you need it.

If you wish to use our transport to attend a hospital appointment we cannot guarantee a driver will be available until we have more volunteers.  However if one of our drivers is available for a longer period of time we will be happy to help.

If you know of anyone who could help by volunteering as a driver we are in urgent need of more help and would be delighted to hear from them.

Volunteers need only have an hour or two to spare a week but of course more would be welcome.
