In 2008 Fakenham Area Partnership carried out a wide community consultation which identified environmental issues, particularly recycling and cleaner streets, in its 'top ten' priorities. The eco’ Cool’ Bag project aims to address those issues and to develop awareness of a more sustainable lifestyle. The project also builds on existing environment campaigns and NNDC’s REDUCE, REUSE RECYCLE campaign.

Earlier this year FAP was successful in a bid to  ‘Awards For All’  to finance the production of a designer 100% recyclable jute bag.  After liaising with the Fakenham High School, participation in the ‘funkie’ design and logo for this bag was adopted by the Year 10 Design and Technology students as a curriculum project.

The designer bag will be sold through local markets and retailers including (can list stockists if desired)   schools, community groups, the Tourist Information Point and visitor sites. The printed logo promotes Fakenham and encourages support for local shops, suppliers and markets. All dyes and inks used in the production process are azo-free and water based.  All carbon emissions in the making and transporting of the bags are offset.  A Farmers’ Market postcard/calendar will be inserted into each bag to underline the “shop locally, eat healthier, live sustainably” message

THE INTENTIONS ARE:

TO PROMOTE OUR TOWN AND ITS LOCAL SUPPLIERS  at the same times as making a contribution to public awareness of finite resources ….

1.  Developing awareness of our carbon footprint and sustainable living.
2.  Reducing the volume of plastic bags and the level of local waste for land-fill.
3.  Reducing litter in our streets from discarded plastic to improve our environment.
4.  Encouraging young people’s support through active participation in the project
5.  Delivering a serious message with a light touch. The logo is wry, amusing with a link to the Fakenham in Bloom project and the attractions of North Norfolk.
6.  Proceeds will finance a future environmental project .
A perfect souvenir or gift, for both visitors and locals BAG STOCKISTS
