Fakenham in Bloom was started in 2004 by volunteers from Fakenham Forum, with financial support from the Town Council, sponsors and local
Businesses.
In 2005 the project had grown to over 170 individual displays involving
well over 60 premises in the town centre and the war memorial.
Since 2006 the great challenge has been to minimise water wastage and a campaign was embarked on to convert the existing wire or plastic bowls to heavy-duty containers with a water reservoir in the base.
Finally by the 2008 season the conversion programme was complete and the watering programme was extended from daily to every fourth/fifth day. The direct benefit from this major water retention exercise, coupled with
active support from the Fakenham Area Conservation Team who now manage plant maintenance, has been a glorious display of plants in better condition for a longer season.
